Luke Warm

She was up at the Old school of Life the other day

when one of the orderlies came around while he was cleaning.

She said her shy hello as per usual,

only this time,

he actually stopped an said something to her.

Her Eyes.

It was a compliment about her eyes.

This was nothing new to her.

Back in her innocent days,

people would always compliment her eyes.

Saying things like,

They were electric!

Hypnotizing!

Like an endless ocean that called to them.

She never really understood it.

She would worry so much about her body.

Her hair.

Her makeup.

Yet,

it was the eyes that always stole the show!

She knew she could see things.

Many things.

Things in the here and now,

the in between and beyond,

the round and yonder,

and even in the

upper realms and under...

She was special.

But not in the way one always bends towards.

But so back to the orderly.

She's been in the school of life since last year.

She saw him then, but was too busy to care.

She only began to see him more when they threw

her over to the wrong side of the road.

She knew exactly why that was the case now,

but back then she was still learning.

One night,

while she was getting her bed ready, a new girl

came and moved her cot right next to hers.

She told the girl, no, you can't move the cots.

But as it went down,

 they fought,

 then the orderlies came

in and to her surprise,

took the new girls side.

Including this very orderly who now claimed to

love her eyes!

Flashbacks of her angry rose up in her.

How dare he!

Stand up for the new girl, then come  6 months later

to tell her that he liked her eyes!

So she did what she always did, and she asked him

the dreaded question...

"Where are you from?"

As a Pisces just like her,

 he responded with a similar

test.

He told her to, "Guess."

She gave him an answer that was, what she delivered as,

 a bit disrespectful in taste.

He gave her a shocked look and disappointed

retaliation in response.

Clearly, the spoonful of his own medicine

really didn't taste as good going in as it did that day

when he had left her hanging for the new girl.

Talk about vengeance that never felt so good.

She was gloating as he walked away.

Then the next day,

she was back at the school of life,

and once again,

he walked by her.

She said her shy Hello again, only this time,

she got a cold stare.

He looked at her as if he couldn't believe how

those lovely blue eyes,

could turn so icy sharp so quick.

But little did he know,

they were still connected to the warmest of waters,

just not to people who make her feel inferior,  insignificant, and then toss her aside.
